Popular movements and intellectuals come together in Santiago de Chile to debate the crisis of humanity
From September 2nd to 4th all of Latin America and the Caribbean will come together in Santiago (Chile) to participate in the Regional Conference of the Dilemmas of Humanity.
The Conference which was convened by ALBA Movimientos and the International Peoples’ Assembly (IPA) is a space for debate, reflection and interchange of perspectives among different social sectors on how to build societies free from exploitation, and any form of oppression among their people. The debates will be centred on five guiding lines: the construction of sovereignty and continental unity to face imperialist domination, the dilemmas and challenges in organising the working class for the struggle of socialism, the cultural battle and the battle of ideas for the construction of our socialist project, the defense of the common goods of life and new forms of relating to Mother Earth as well as the construction of popular and protagonist democracy to cement socialism.
The Conference in Chile is one of the various regional processes happening which include those in Bela Bela (South Africa), Atlanta (U.S.A), Tunis (Tunisia) as well as many other activities in other countries such as Italy. The debates of each one of these spaces will be systematically put together to be addressed at the III International Conference of Dilemmas of Humanity which will take place in the month of October in Johannesburg, South Africa.
This event will be happening within the framework of the 50th anniversary of the coup d’etat against the Unidad Popular (Popular Unity) process and its socialist President, Salvador Allende; the event will include the participation of renowned intellectuals as well as political and social leaders such as Daniel Jadue (Chile), Barbara Flores Casamayor (Cuba), Atilio Borón (Argentina), Mónica Bruckmann (Brazil), Vijay Prashad (India) and Hector Bejar (Peru).
The activity will take place in the Universidad Abierta de Recoleta (Open University of Recoleta) located in the country’s capital and both the schedule and detailed program are readily available via this link.
